Did you know blindness is a spectrum?
I recently had the incredible honor of being interviewed by Ben Fox and Ora Clinical for The Blind Canvas Project. This initiative highlights the stories of blind and visually impaired individuals. It was a truly unique experience to have my stories shared in this way.
I have a rare eye condition called retinitis pigmentosa. I was diagnosed at a young age and was simply told to return for follow-up visits every six to twelve months, with no mention of the resources available to help. For years, I struggled, hiding my condition from friends, family, and my employer. It was an isolating and difficult experience.
Now, I’ve learned to advocate for myself and others. I routinely speak at different centers around my city, share resources on my website, and strive to ensure that no one else has to feel lost and alone in their journey.
Please, don’t feel sorry for me. Instead, share this story with anyone who might need to hear it, and refer them to my website blog for resources in San Diego. I’m continually working on expanding these resources beyond my area. Stay tuned!
