Happy World White Cane Awareness Day!
I’m excited to share *“A Cane’s Perspective,”* a meaningful collaboration between myself, Raquel Alim, and Dave Steele, The Blind Poet from the UK. This project is close to our hearts as it shines a light on the journey of a visually impaired person (based on Dave) as they embrace the use of a white cane.
Throughout the exhibition, you’ll witness the progression of emotions—from initial discomfort and hesitation to the powerful realization that the white cane is a symbol of strength, not weakness. Each artwork tells a story, capturing pivotal moments in this journey. Accompanying these visuals is Dave’s powerful poem, *A Cane’s Perspective.* Here’s a brief excerpt:
*"You’re not the only one who felt embarrassed to be seen,*
*outside walking with me, this for many’s always been.*
*But in time you’ll realize, you’ll soon be proud again.*
*I’m not a sign of weakness, I’m a reason to be proud,*
*Alleviate anxiety when you’re in a crowd..."*
This exhibition is our way of celebrating the white cane as a tool of empowerment, independence, and pride. Our hope is that it raises awareness and helps to break the stigma around mobility aids while showcasing how they can truly change lives.
I invite you to view the full video of *A Cane’s Perspective* on the main page of my [website](https://www.unblurredcollection.com), where you can also hear Dave himself reciting the poem alongside the artwork I’ve created. If the message resonates with you, please give it a like and share it with others who need to hear it. Let’s work together to spread awareness that the white cane is a symbol of resilience and independence.
Thank you for your support, and I look forward to hearing your feedback
With gratitude,
Raquel
