VisionWalk 2024 – What a Day!
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us at the Foundation Fighting Blindness VisionWalk in San Diego. Together, we raised an incredible 75,000, which will support community outreach on inherited retina diseases, age-related macular degeneration, and crucial clinical research to fund a cure for blindness. A special shoutout to the San Diego leadership team for their dedication and hard work!
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who came out to walk with Team Unblurred and show support. I love you all so much! A special thank you to Rusty, who drove over three hours to be there and filled the day with beautiful music, and to Shon from the Braille Institute for bringing such infectious energy and getting everyone dancing. Thank you both for being part of this and sharing your talents!
This event also marked the first public display of A Cane’s Perspective—a collaboration with Dave Steele. Attendees could listen to Dave reciting his poem via a QR code, which made the experience so meaningful. For those who couldn’t make it, feel free to check my previous post to learn more about it! I also want to thank Dr. Barooah for his ongoing support and for stopping by to see the art.
The energy throughout the day was amazing, and though I was running on little sleep, I was so uplifted by all the love and support. By the time I got home—after being awake for over 30 hours—I took a well-deserved nap with my front door still wide open! Thankfully, all was safe, but it was a reminder to rest.
Thank you all for making VisionWalk 2024 such a memorable and impactful day!
With gratitude,
Raquel
